How to be a Felony Lawyer

Depending on the country, a specific educational route needs to be completed for an individual to become a qualified and licensed law practitioner.  In the United States and other developed countries post-secondary education is needed in the form of a college or university degree/diploma in Law.  After completing this goal an individual can then apply for Law school where they will specialize in felony law and join felony lawyers.  Generally this period takes a total of seven to nine years to finish and requires full-time commitment towards its study.

Much like any specialist job, the challenge to complete the prerequisites requires motivation and determination.  Here is a simple map of the goals an individual must take in order to qualify:

  1. Bachelors Degree – This degree typically takes between 3-4 years to complete and can involve political science, psychology, sociology, or a criminal justice degree.
  2. LSAT (Law School Administration Test) – Generally taken between 1-2 years before an individual applies to a specific law school.  It is comprised of a multiple choice which examines ability to use logic, critical thinking, and the level of reading comprehension an individual possesses.
  3. Law School Application – Submit 2 to 3 written letters of recommendation are needed from employers and professors, along with previous school transcripts and a written statement from the individual as to why they should be considered
  4. Specializing in Criminal Law – This takes typically 3 years as the individual will focus on law and procedure, while also participating in community activities which highlight public speaking
  5. Bar Application – Depending on the state an individual will need to complete their application of licensure, disclose their work and academic history while also completing a criminal background check.
  6. Bar Exam – This exam specifically tests legal understanding and knowledge regarding professional ethics.  Once an individual passes they will be granted the ability to practice felony law and handle cases.
